45. Harbinger

So far it has been a very mild winter, so it is not surprising that the snow drops are already starting to unfurl.

Margerite with a raindrop

Oxeye daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare). Native to Europe and parts of Asia. Considered an invasive weed in most other places.

Duet

I thought this might be Ranunculus aconitifolius but I'm not sure. The leaves look about right, but the blossoms have too many petals and look different.

Snowdrop or close enough

Snowdrop. Galanthus Plicatus. Schneeglöckchen. Maybe. This entry in Wikipedia (link) informed me of enough varieties and similar flowers to make my head spin.

Excursion: Arosa VI

One last look before we leave Arosa.

The white flowers are Ranunculus aconitifolius. Eisenhutblättriger hahnenfuss. Same family as those flowers known as buttercup and fair-maids-of-France. While the flowers are poisonous to cattle and taste bitter and cause blistering of the mouth so that they're generally left alone, they become safe to consume when they're dry (source).

The yellow flowers are probably from the same family but I didn't get any close up photos of them and am thus unable to identify them with any confidence.

Wildflower 12: Wild strawberry

Interspersed with the trefoil from a week ago are wild strawberries. Fragaria vesca. Wald-Erdbeere. Makes me think that I should watch the movie again, it's been a long time since.

Wildflower 08: False baby's breath

Hedge bedstraw. Gallium mollugo. Wiesen-Labkraut. The roots are a source of red dye that was used to color wool and even Easter eggs.

Wildflower 06: Ribwort

Ribwort (Plantago something). I had posted a fall photo of this plant (I think) last year.

Wildflower 05: Wild garlic

Wild garlic. Allium ursinum. Bär-Lauch. Pesto, anyone? To see a blossom opening, check out my overflow site (link).

Update: I replaced the original photo as I like this one better. The old one is at the link above, with the sprouting photo.
