The old and the new (VI)

An intersection in Baden, showing the ruins of Schloss Stein (an old stronghold of the Habsburgs) that I've shown several times before and newer construction. The building on the far left was just recently completed. For a slightly more zoomed out (and worse quality) view, showing the street and the tunnel that goes under the hill the ruin is on, please visit the overflow site.

Interesting to see you also have a town called Baden: "my" Baden is far about 5 km from Arradon...
About my cheesecake, it's an American one, do you want the recipe?

Swiss cleanliness: certainly no English quaintness in this view.

Now...(I do like your approach. I'm annoyingly analytical myself, at times)...yes, it is lead flashing, and very nicely turned and done. That's normal. The door glass is normal..it's a typical "bottle glass" window - popular in it's day. I agree about the delapidation. A number of these cottages are today occupied by elderly people who have been there for many years. Soon they'll be sold off and gentrified (eek). Some are owned by charitable trusts and maintenance is adequate but not lavish.

The Habsburgs is a fond memory to some people. It is amazing the building parts are still there. I think this is a fascinating photo that shows "what once was" and "what is now."

Today, the final pictures of the series, "A Day in the Life of a Robin," is online. I couldn't decide which picture to use. I hope you get to see them.

Oh, absolutely. Honest ;-)

Now that's an interesting statistic...more wheat than barley. I'm very surprised. I would have bet the other way. What about rye? Triticale...yeah, forget it.

Did I miss something? Are you in Baden, Germany now?

Hi Alice, I think I remember that you mentioned your Baden before. Are there hot springs over there? One of these days, I'll have to write about how "our" Baden got its name from the sulphur springs that were enjoyed way back by the Romans and continue to be used for treatments now.

Chuckeroon: Some quirks can be found when you get closer to the buildings.

Per: It is summer here. Temperatures in the high 20s. Yesterday I ate two strawberries from my balcony plant, and noticed that one of my tomato plants has set out flowers!

Isabella: This is our Baden, a 20 minute drive from Villigen. The one in Germany is Baden-Baden. If you're interested, and have the time, search for Baden on the blog. You'll find many mentions.
