Fountain, and gate with wisteria
In the early days of this blog, I wrote that Villigen has many fountains (20070124). Let's step back from Hirschen (the building in the shadows to the right) to look at one of them. The gate with the wisteria growing over it looks very nice to me.

Howzat for a quick comment
Now a real comment. I wish I could identify flowers - one of those things (many) that never ever stuck in my brain. This is nice typical Swiss village scene. I sometimes wonder if these large fountains weree used for laundry. A lot of them have fittings where you can put a tub in. (not quite like the one on antiguadailyphoto.com though)
The photo is a bit over-exposed for the fountain, isn't it. Or, I need to shoot when the sun is in a different position, so that I can a better shot with the "Villigen" on the fountain more legible.
Interesting note about the laundry. I hadn't thought of that at all. I have seen horses and dogs getting their fill of water from them. Let's see if I have a photo to post...
hi--blogger ate my other comment a while ago...waaaaah...
once again, we're on the same wavelength--I also took a picture of a balcony on my street, covered in wisteria, but haven't posted it yet. like Richard, I don't know the names of most flowers, but I do know wisteria!
Richard mentioned you were talking about meeting up in Zurich. we should do it! when?
I think the exposure is fine - as you say it's high flat lighting. If you want to pick out details more, yes wait till the suns lower, or do some jiggery-pokery in photoshop.
Re meeting up with ainz I'm goping to Madrid next week, and after that there are some hectic days as my son gets married. So lets do it, but probably not till end of month for me. NB we should arrange that offline - not sure if other folks are interested!
I love the wisteria on the gates. Do you know why they build a fountain there? Were they originally for the horses to drink or are they primarily for decoration?
I'd like to believe that at one time, the building served as a roadside Gasthaus and the fountain was for the horses...and why shouldn't I, if it makes me happy ;-)
There are so many fountains in such a short stretch of road that my personal theory is that the rich people in town were competing against each other to see who would have the prettiest fountain built. Just wild speculation, but as Isabella put it...
I vote for decorative fountains for the horses. :-)
