Purgatory of a sort

One of my readers yesterday asked about a temporary (aren't they all?) storage site for the detritus from certain types of power plants. There it is, in the shadow at the bottom of this photo.

Thanks Z, for your comment on Ocala DP!

You have so many beautiful photos on this blog...Switzerland offers a plethora of photo ops!

Thanks for sharing your part of the world with us.

Hi again...I just saw your comment on Jackson DP...re: a DSLR...

You may wish to go to Ken Rockwell (kenrockwell.com) for an incredible amount of info re: cameras and photography - the man's a genius...

I'd highly recommend the Nikon D40...I just bought a reconditioned one for Lois Anne at Adorama.com for $375. It's refurbished by Nikon and is identical to a new one except it carried a 90-day warranty instead of a five-year warranty.

The D40 is small, lightweight, and can do anything my D300 can do! It is a superb camera, and according to Rockwell is better than either the D60 or the D80.

Don't get the D40X though.

The regular price for a D40 is $499 almost everywhere.

Hope that helps!

Hi Jacob,

Thanks for taking the time to write about the cameras you use. I appreciate the thought! :-)

I'm an old reader of Rockwell's site so I know he's been pushing the D40. That camera is still too large for my taste (I need to be able to take it with me everywhere, including a selection of lenses). And as I'm in Switzerland, the USD 499 price doesn't apply as I want my seller 'next door'. Here I've seen used ones (local private sales) for anywhere from CHF 270 upwards (body only) but once outfitted with VR lenses, the prices can climb quite a bit. Anyway, at the end of the day, it's just too bulky. I'll have to see where micro 4/3rds goes (Panasonic and Olympus).

Hi Wellingtonia,

I know. But they haven't made a final on a location yet (too much opposition!). There are 3 to 5 sites under consideration, depending on what type of waste (high level, or low and medium level). The Zürcher Weinland could be a site...

In case my text was too unclear, Zwilag (zwischen lager = temporary storage) is the blue building at the bottom of the photo...

A new word for me. I can't recall ever seeing it before. Anyhow, a nice photograph. Thanks for looking at gobsmacks. I have some really nice stuff coming up soon. Probably on Monday.

Oh I don't like the sound of that near towns. I am not much of a nuclear power plant fan.:(
