I lost one through the gap

Fasnacht celebrations are taking place all over and our local big one is in Brugg on March 1st. Tomorrow there's a kids' parade in Villigen and I'll try to get a photo to post.

The motto of the Brugg one is Einisch Mee Dor d'Latte. My personal Swiss-German translator gave me some pointers and I used the image on the poster to put it together. "I lost one through the gap" or "One escaped me through the gap". If you have a better one (are you reading this, Local Insider or Peter/Worldman or Barbara or Wellingtonia? Any other Swiss reader I should know, did I miss you?) do speak up.

Hi Z

I consultet the homepage of Brugg.
http://www.brugg-online.ch/dynamic/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.showArt&id_art=9475&vsprache=de
The word "Latte" is a pun to the word "Lappen".
And means - Brugg had many oportunities und lost to much.
To lose something - etwas ging durch die "Lappen".
So the "Bajass" is crying.

Sounds like a fun time for the kids.

What a strange motto for the town. Is it some obscure reference to how CH is experiencing the global economic meltdown?!

Hi jph

It's a local "motto" to the carnival about local problems.
Locals try to find local "sujets".
Global problems they read each day in the newspaper.

Interesting post, thanks.

Wellingtonia: Thank you for the answer.

Martin: I think it is.

jph: As Wellingtonia pointed out, the motto or theme is for the Fasnacht related events and refers to the big issues in the particular community of Brugg. Other communities would have other themes. They could be obscure to outsiders.

Key West street chickens are always doing that - slipping through the gap. They must be descended from swiss chicks.

Hi Conchscooter

You mean legal loopholes.
This kind of "street"-economic need satisfaction.
The carnivalcomite mean missed chances.
You think globel but live local!!
