Heisse Marroni
'Tis the season for hot, roasted chestnuts! Stalls pop up all over the place as winter approaches. Here we are at the Sihlcity mall in Zürich. The design of this stall is one of the neatest I've seen, plus I really like the way the mall holiday opening hours are written out in such large and legible type on the left.

I love roasted chestnuts. Marks the beginning of the cold months.
We had some while in China. My husband calls them heisse Marroni, but to me they will always be marrons chauds. :)
I have never tasted them. We don't see them in the states at all. I'd really like to try them.
I had them once. When we lived in California, we would go to our town's little old fashioned Christmas. It was in the historic district and people would dress in Victorian clothing and they had someone roasting chestnuts and selling them. I remember all that, but can't remember if I liked them,lol. Now here in Virginia, I actually have a chestnut tree. Maybe I should try to roast some myself?!
They are only good while they're hot. I don't think they taste really nutty either - it's hard to describe but they're a little sweet. I am now looking forward to having some in Berlin next week!
There are roasted chestnut stands in New York City, I believe -- but not in my little town.
When I was little girl in Paris my Granbpa bought us some roasted chestnuts. I like chestnuts boiled with a green salad.
I love them.. I remember buying them on the streets of Manhattan when I was a child. Here we can sometimes find them in the stores at this time of year. I bought some for Thanksgiving and roasted them to eat.
I am hoping to find them in Paris. I will be there in just 3 more days.
I love them too and roast them from time to time at home. Together with a glass of wine (and "Oepfelmues") we enjoy to eat them!
