A Sunday ride in a buggy
Preparations for the smart fortwo began in the early 1990’s with a Joint Venture between Mercedes-Benz and Swatch, the makers of Swatch watches known for their wide array of colorful designs. Nicolas Hayek, the inventor of the Swatch watch brought his ideas for an “ultra-urban” car to Mercedes-Benz.
Spotted last Sunday evening. I particularly like the contrast with the little Smart to the right of it. The Smart is the product of a collaboration between the Swiss company Swatch and Mercedes-Benz:
Currently available in 36 countries, they'll be introduced to the US in 2008 (source: smartusa). Apropos Earth Day! Previous post about a buggy: Buggy (20070303)

I love horses and this is a classic photograph catching the horse and one of the smallest automobiles in the same frame. Very nice.

I came back to thank you for your visit to my blog.
A friend from another blog told me about the Smart car as she lives in Milan, Italy and bought one. It is perfect for her due to parking where she lives. She had sent photos too.
I understand they are coming to America where I live and that they will sell for around $15,000 US Dollars.

Nice photo. Looks kinda of chilly there.
Lovely contrast..I wonder if we'll be returning to the horse and cart as Global warming continues.
I once saw a big camper van with Swiss plates on the motorway. On the rack at the back where the bikes usually go was a Smart car...

Very appriopriate post for today, Earth Day!
I guess Smart might do well in the city traffic in the States, but for long distance? Maybe we should get a buggY ;-)
We just parked next to a Smart car, zany mover, believe the car is allowed to be parked at right angles to the gutter someplaces or thats what our discussion was. Will I see a horse and buggy today as well?
That is a really cute buggy. I would love to ride on it.
Thanks for the taking the time to comment. I'm running a little behind on visiting all your sites.
lv2: the photo looks a little cold because it was evening. It's actually quite warm here these days. Hot, even!
Angela: that's such a great story! I can just picture it. Too bad you don't have a photo!
Isabella: they're used on the highway here, and I imagine on the Autobahn in Germany (vrooooom!). But it true that the stretches are longer in the US...
Julia: sorry to disappoint. Maybe I'll get lucky with another shot next Sunday.
Ming: I would, too. Hey that's an idea!
