Buggy

We are back in Villigen, just about at the entrance to the village. There's a farm house with horses. And a buggy. Sometimes I hear the clop-clop of horses outside and I run to the window to see individual riders and very occasionally, the buggy.

In the background there's a log house. Fodder for another post.

Addendum: One reader, AinZ, pointed out that the Amish and the Mennonites are of Swiss ancestry, and that's pertinent for this photo. We even discussed this in my German class recently as we talked about German-speaking groups around the world.

when I was to switzerland it was amazing to see that its a very modern country but on the other hand you still can see the cows going home by themselves from the fields.:)your photo reminds me of this contrast

I love this picture. For some reason it reminds me of the fun times I had as a young kid playing on my friends' farm. I'm not so old that they had only horse and buggy, but I guess this photo evokes the sense of fun on the farm.

What a beautiful old "wagonette" as I'd call it.

A "buggy" to me is something smaller that mothers push young children around in and heave on and off buses.

Or perhaps this is the poor man's version of a landau?

lovely whatever

I agree about the contrasts. Amazing and charming that this is 2007.

I really like this photo. It looks like some of the Mennonite places around where I live.

Nice to see reminders of the old days.

Thank you all for commenting.

Mimmu: Hope you're having a good weekend in snowy Finland.

zsolt72: It is a nice thing here, to be close to the basics as I think of it.

Carol E: thanks for visiting and sharing your memories with us. They sound very nice.

Gerald: You've given me some wonderful synomyms. I looked up "buggy" in the OED: a light one-horse (sometimes two-horse) vehicle, for one or two people, so there you go.

Per: It's not perfect, but I do find a lot of charm.

Pat: welcome to Villigen! I can see what you mean.

funnly that you posted a different type of buggy! I love this picture. It also reminds me of the Amish buggies. Apparently the Amish and Mennonites are of Swiss German ancestry, so it's probably no accident that your buggy and the ones in Amish Country in the US look similar..
