Druckerei

I'm a little low on new Villigen photos right now, so how about another series of shop signs? This one is in Zürich. Druckerei = printing press/shop.

Probably to heat water for laundry... Now purely decorative.

Marroni stand in Zürich

'Tis the season for chestnuts and roasted Marroni stands have sprouted up all over the place (though not in Villigen itself). This photo is from Zürich from earlier in the year.

Disrepair

Just in the past few days I've noticed that the area around a (seemingly?) uninhabited house is being fixed up. Perhaps some renovation work will be done, or a new house will be built.

Brugg-Windisch dig find

Here's something different. I've mentioned the Roman ruins in these parts, e. g. the amphitheater in Windisch (town next to Brugg). Over the past couple of years there has been a big construction project in Windisch and this is a view of part of it from a year ago. Whenever they dig around here, there's the chance that they'll find something of archeological interest. The site seen here has just recently yielded a relief in stone of an almost life-size female head. A photo of this can be seen at the following site (text only in German):

Windisch: Porträt eine römischen Göttin entdeckt.

Window cats in Brugg

Cats (I know you can't see the other one, but it's there) on a window sill in the old town area of Brugg. This is a really old photo, but I'm in the mood for night shots and I don't have so many of them.

Web with water droplets

As the fog rolled in last evening I noticed this web outside the kitchen window. I had already set up the tripod to photograph the crescent moon (failed attempt because the fog obscured it within seconds of my getting the camera ready) so I just moved it to the other side and took this photo. I've desaturated the image to remove the strident pumpkin coloring imparted by the sodium street lamps.

Old insulators and new cages

Looks like the building in the middle had some function related to telephony, with the ceramic insulators still in place. In the foreground are containers related to the local agribusiness.

Lichen and wire fence

It isn't often that the conditions are right for my point-and-shoot to get this type of depth-0f-field.

Facade with ornamentation

Ornamentation of the modern kind... This is a building that's part of a school facility in Baden.

Reflections

Sorry about the absence -- I've been away from Switzerland and have had some connection problems. Here is another photo from the area in Baden I've been showing for the past few days.

Rocks, the other view

Same area as in yesterday's photo. As you can see, there's a dam which is used for electricity production. Recently some fish were introduced to the area hence the poster,

Fall splendor with building

Following from yesterday's photo, in the spirit of "recycle, reuse".

Incidentally, I don't like any of the German words I've found for splendor. Die Pracht is probably the closest.

The aliens have landed!

I think these things look like pods to go into outer space. In reality, they seem to be objects used in the process of wine making.
