View of Zürich from Die Waid

It was almost exactly a year ago that had I posted a photo I had taken from the restaurant Die Waid in Zürich. Link to it here: 20080315 Zürichsee. Maybe next year I'll get a photo with a clear sky!

I think this is an interesting photo to compare with the one of Rüfenach from yesterday. The largest city in Switzerland (the city of Zürich has 376,815 inhabitants, the canton of Zürich 1.3 million) compared to a village of 850 residents.

I think this is a much better photo than 20080315. You've caught the dichotomy between urbanization and nature really well.

Thanks jph. I like this photo better as well. Certainly the quality is better. One big reason is that there was much more light and this camera is especially unhappy in low light.

Zürich was always my favorite city. When I was a young in the 60ties, I always dreamed of it. It was like New York for me. We lived, at that time, in Olten. Which was a boring town. Which, today, is still a boring town.

One day my father came home and said that he has a job in Zürich and we moved to there. I started to make my apprenticeship, I had a (small) salary but this was sufficient to attend all the jazz concerts at the Tonhalle, Kongresshaus and Volkshaus. Because, at that time, the tickets were cheap. And above all, I was now living in the big "world city". Which was great, even though the bars and restaurant were closed at 23h00 because of the influence of the "Frauenverein".

Nice view !
The only place in your country I saw is a side of Bâle when we drove from France to Austria.
