I love the atmosphere of this picture even though I realize that after the flowers have been blooming, it is probably quite depressing to you in real life. I have two questions. 1. I notice a vineyard. I don't recall ever seeing Swiss wine. Is it good? 2. How do people heat their homes in this area? Is their often smoke coming from the chimneys?
Nice to "see" you in Villigen. Thank you for writing.
As someone who doesn't drink, this is what I have to say to your first question: In general, I don't think Swiss wine gets exported, at least not a lot. Having said that, the wine from the Valais/Wallis region (lots of sunshine and dry weather) is supposed to be good. My feeling is that in places like Villigen it's more of a hobby and it's a way to take care of the slopes. :-)
Heating: Many homes use heating oil (that's the case in our building). Newer homes or renovated homes might use heatpumps. There's the occasional pellet- or wood- oven (centralized), I'm sure. Without knowing this for a fact, I'm going to claim that burning wood in a fireplace here is probably more a thing for the soul, rather than for actual heating. If the wood isn't burnt properly (don't get me started on that topic! :-) it will smoke and I've seen smoke from many a house here.
Thanks for answering! I know that when I visited Czech republic in the late fall, people were still using coal to heat homes in the country side and there was a lot of smoke from a lot of chimneys and I couldn't help but wonder...
Now this is truly an amazing shot. It reflects real life in a northern snowy place... This is exactly what it looks like. I like the focus on the house and the fading background...Good Job .
Hi Z! Sorry I couldn’t visit you for the last weeks! I’m trying to catch-up and see the wonders you have around! It seems this is a never ending winter, but sunshine will come soon! Loved to see the wild grape picture. Great shot! And, of course, the white car...

I started this blog in Jan 2007 as a member of the City Daily Photo family representing the village of Villigen. I'm a transplant to Switzerland and keeping the blog was a way for me to keep a record of new things I learnt while sharing with others. I was on a long LONG break, and now I post only sporadically although I still have hopes of posting more regularly. Thanks for stopping by and drop me a line if you have questions or comments. Camera and other information at the foot of the page. 20150322

Oh this looks treacherous ... not much longer now though ...
Clever title and so pretty to me.

Yes, and I wish for those "steps" to finish. I am not used yet to this weather.
I suppose your country got a lot of snow this winter. In France every mountainous mass got much much snow.
