Under a willow sky

Living willow structures seem to be rather popular. Do you have any around you??

Update: Since I've now had a few comments from people who haven't seen these, I'm adding this link to a website run by an 'environmental artist' in the UK. This is about the best illustrated site in English that I've been able to find on the topic. Enjoy!

Not that I a m aware of. The one you show is a very pleasing dome shape. When you say Willow do you mean a variety of Weeping Willow? Do they use a similar technique to espalier - slowly does it?

It is very lovely ...

I've never seen anything like this before, but it's rather striking and unusual, isn't it?

Not that I know of, but I'm going to inquire.

Interesting! I've never seen a willow like this before. I thought it might have been an old jungle gym covered with kudzu - you would probably find something like that easily here in Mississippi.

In any case, very pretty!

Julie: Yes, willow as in belonging to the weeping family. Not that slow from what I can tell -- take a look at the photos on the update that I added to the post.

DC, Lavenderlady and Halcyon: I think they might be only now catching on in the States...

Here's another website (in the UK) that has interesting information:

That is a glorious site showing the various creations of the artist. How glorious to be able to run through a tunnel of a living tree.

I've never seen this before! How fascinating. I'll look for them wherever I go (not too many willows in SoCal but I've seen nice ones in Mesa, Arizona) & at our local Botanical Gardens.
