Excursion: Le Locle in Neuchâtel

Le Locle in the Jura mountain range in Canton Neuchâtel (Neuenburg in German). The original center of the Swiss watchmaking industry. It is somewhat unreal to me, the way the new part of town rises up sharply from the surrounding fields. Some more pictures over the next few days. Click on the photo for a 2240 x 1680 image.

Bizarre. High rise accommodation right next to fields and farms. I wonder what the town planners were thinking?! Maybe they have very strict green belt policies?

Beautiful. There is something really special about Switzerland.

I think it's great - if I was in a high-rise, that's the setting I'd choose! Z, that's a terrific photo.

It does seem to nestle in to the hills very nicely.

Pretty wierd to me: out of the woods - whoosh - straight into high rise. I tend to agree with JPH.

Julie: Weird yes. But is is more efficient and makes better use of land and resources. Save the land for growing food, for example. I would have chosen different facades, but that can be changed. Often, you see that, at least, in the German parts which tend to look better groomed in my opinion.
