Excursion: Le Locle III
Maison DuBois, one of the oldest watchmaker houses in Switzerland, is now operated as a bed-and-breakfast. A different experience, to be in such an old house which is dated 1684 - I'm guessing the company DuBois was registered in 1785. (Even more odd to have Wifi access there!) It's difficult to say what's really, really old, what's really old, and what's just old. Link to related Swiss BnB site here.

Ahh - now this I find more satisfying. So it probably is just me rather than that which I am looking at. This has stood the test of time. There is a subtlety in design and colour. There is probably less requirement for extensive air-conditioning.
Oh, very neat! Did you stay there?
Halcyon: Yes, we did!
Julie: Air-conditioning? You mean US-style?? Not here... only in places like supermarkets and some shops. Okay, this area in the Jura is also at high altitude (1000 meters) so it's naturally cooler. In other places there has been a trend towards air-conditioning (using portable units) of late as the summers have gotten hotter and some of the building styles were poorly chosen (not enough shading of the summer sun.) I hope that new designs in construction will take these issues in consideration so that there's no need for putting energy into cooling in most cases.
