I wonder if there are people out there still do mosaic floor for their baths.

About the cottages or cabins, here people call it either of them. They live there during summer, and back to the city when summer is over. And they are huge.

Aha - the Romans again. Don't they just crop up everywhere. I don't know about you, but I always have a big problem reconciling the Roman Empire with current day Italy. (Or current day Athens with the ancient Greeks!)

To digress a little, and hijack your post, a lot of people imagine that figurative, representative art developed as a continuous refinement from cave paintings through the renaissance etc. In fact the romans (and greeks) were quite capable of accurate, and indeed beautiful figurative art. It was all done as frescoes however, so survival was always a problem. After the fall of the Roman Empire, art did subside into a rather crude style (in the so called dark ages). Do a search on google for "Roman Fresco". Here's one of my
favourite examples.

Thanks to all for stopping by and commenting.

Vie Lipowski: I think there are, in the high end luxury market. In fact, some of those cabins of yours might have a mosaic floor or two. :-)

Richard: Thanks for that link, that was a surprise for me. And I agree with you on the reconciling thing...
