Barefoot in Stilli

Last year, I noticed one or two young women (always women) walking around barefoot at the bus and train stations. This one here is the first I've seen this year.

Going barefoot in public places in not allowed in this country. I am surprised it is allowed due to transmitted diseases of the feet.

Anyway. I am guessing they want to believe they are somehow helping the environment.

I just discovered your cityblog and it's a real pleasure.
Very interesting shot with great grip on the daily life.

>Thanks Abraham for pointing out the fact that going barefoot in public place was not allowed in the US. I didn't know it.

Here in India, women only go barefeet mainly in temples or religious places...a very well captured shot!

I find the phenomenon rather odd myself. Even discounting the disease and parasite aspects, I would think it would be rough on the skin to walk on asphalt, though people like Zola Budd would disagree.

Anyway, maybe they're members of the Barefoot Living Society? Yes, I've discovered there is such a thing in the US! And they claim that in the US, there is no regulation against going barefoot. They went on a letter writing campaign to the health departments of the individual states, to find out whether there were such rules. Answers seem to be "no". Check it out if you're curious:

fun picture! great catch and love the angle. I saw your comment on my page. perhaps that was her shoe on the Limmatquai in Zurich. In response to your question, I haven't really seen anyone wandering around town barefoot--unless it's at the lake in the summer or the 'Barfussbar' (the bar at the Frauenbadi), where you would expect to see people barefoot. There were some students in my college in California who were always barefoot. all the time. every day. everywhere. including class. They even graduated barefoot--cap & gown & bare feet. their feet were always dirty--it was kind of gross, actually. But they had to wear shoes in the dining halls and science labs though.

If my sons see this photo they'll wish to do the same thing.

Going barefoot in public is perfectly legal in the USA. Going barefoot in public also does NOT pose ANY health risk to anyone. You are at greater risk from people going in public while sick.

As for only seeing women going barefoot, I've seen plenty of guys going barefoot in public. Women tend to go barefoot because they seem to be smart enough to realize the health benefits to going barefoot.

Going barefoot in public places is perfectly legal in the United States, being limited only by individual businesses' prerogative to enforce a certain dress code. There is not a single health code in any state that bans bare feet from public places. Even a casual Internet search will show you that bare feet in public places are common in several areas of the country, including southern California, many college towns, and here in Burlington, VT, where I live and where I see bare feet all over town during the warm summer months. "Abraham Lincoln" may speak for his region or city, but he is incorrect regarding the entire country.
