More of a house like this
Some readers referred to this as a Hobbit house in the comments to yesterday's post. That is exactly how I think of it. Here's a view from one of the sides. The overflow site has several more photos.

It is more revealing this time than the other day when I assumed it was an underground home. I like the little greeter.

Sorry I've not addressed your recent questions (too much company=not enough blog time)!
We've not seen the boat parade, but hope to attend this year...and, usually most people drive their own cars to Ikea, and often times the purchases include large pieces of furniture or several small items. It would probably be an extreme challenge to carry everything on a bus or train!
I think that earth houses are very interesting and unusual, of course. Friends live in one, which is well-designed, but I think I'd get claustrophic as one gets deeper into the dwelling where their bedrooms happen to be. Not for me, I guess. I want mine to front on a beach!!
Chris&Deb: Thanks for the answers. I've questioned my sanity a couple of times when I bought something large from Ikea but then had to ride home on the bus.
Kate: Interesting point. Windows (that open) are very important over here and I would think that there would be no room without them. So, I think this house is quite small, and probably has windows around the back. I should try to check.
this is an amazing place! It really looks like something out of lord of the rings. So colourful and small... where is this place? I'm going to be in geneva for about a week... do you think I will be able to get here by train for a day - or is it too far?
Olive: I left you an answer at your blog, although I didn't tell you specifics. To get to the house from the Zürich main station would take a little over half an hour. From Geneva, it would be about 3 and a half hours.
just catching up on visiting and commenting...I love this house and all your pictures. I'm really curious about it. It reminds me a bit of something Hundertwasser might have done--all curvy and with a grass roof. Saw some scale models of an entire housing development with grass roofs that he designed at the Hundertwasser museum in Vienna (I don't think it was ever built though)
