Honey for sale

Geraniums are very popular in window boxes here. Especially red ones. In a few weeks, these planters will be overflowing with blooms. This place is several houses down from the car dealership. The big sign reads "Honey from our own apiary" while the little one says "Apple vinegar with honey". For a look at one of my attempts at photographing bees on flowers, please visit the overflow site.

A daily blogger, Abraham Lincoln from Brookville in Ohio, has had a wonderfully illustrated sequence about bees (go here only after you've checked out my bee photo, otherwise you're going to laugh at my lame efforts) showing how they collect pollen from flowers. I wasn't aware of the shortage of bees in the US until I read one of his posts. To read more about that topic, visit the following:

- A plea for bees (from The Vegetarian Times (US) June 2005)
- Species under threat: Honey, who shrunk the bee population? (The Independent (UK) March 2007)

Nice to know the boxes will be overflowing with honey in a few weeks bringing cheer to the planters as well as the honey lovers. Honey making is such a delicate as well as a bit risky process...Nice shot!

Thank you for the link. I appreciate it. The bee photos are still there on my blog. You will have to look in the Archives to find them but they are very large pictures so you can't miss them.

Thanks again.

And the flowers you have here were and still are a favorite "old" flower in Ohio where i live. There was a greenhouse who grew them from cuttings and each year had to employ many extra people to help with the sales. The older man died and the younger one didn't want to work so it is now closed. Geraniums are almost always red here but there are some pink ones.

I didn't eat any Peking duck that day. The next time I order Peking duck, I will insist on a "physical check-up" before we eat it to make sure they are males. :-)

Geraniums are not my favourite but I always have window boxes all year long, besides I must go to buy some new plants for summer, my yellow pansies are tired...And I already notice less and less bees in my garden. Very sad and worrying. Please, z, could you tell me the meaning of "tending-to", i'm sorry but i didn't find it in my dictionnary. Your postcard is wonderful!

Hello z, thank you for visiting my blog, dont know where to put my reply to your question but the answer is - we dont need to worry about winter since Philippines is a tropical country... we have the sun shining all year round with occasional rains and typhoons on rainy season. have a good day

Claude: welcome to Villigen and thanks for writing! Yes, flower language is universal :-)

Kalyan: I read once about the way wild honey is collected in the Sundarbans. Here, the process isn't nearly as risky, I don't think.

Ming: Good to know...

Alice: So bee problems on this side of the ocean as well. Not good news.

Pusa: thank you for answering my question.
