Going through the receiving line
Sunday 19 May 2007, Baden. We were sitting at an outside cafe, next to a church where a wedding had just taken place. It seemed an interesting mix of formal and casual, and what I liked most was when a dog demanded to greet the couple.
I did some jiggery-pokery, as Richard in ZH calls it, on the original photo to pull out the bride and the dog and I have mixed feelings about the result. Please take a look at the original and be my evaluating panel ... Going through the receiving line II.

Thanks to alot of folks for setting me straight yesterday on my post that were wisteria. I thought they were lilacs. I posted my lilacs from my house today. Thanks for the comment on my daily blog change.
I like both photos but wonder about the baby -- would it be the bride's baby?
what a capture, well done
The Bride is stroking a dog ! Why not ? About the baby, Abraham has a funny question ! Why not also ?
i prefer this one, which shows off the subject better and the color treatment is spot-on,too
Hmmmm...........I'd rather not say. More to the point, Z: what are you trying to say? The lady on the right upsets me.
P.S. did they arrive by public transport? ;-)
Abe: there were a lot of children running around in the group so I imagine the baby belongs to one of the guests rather than the couple who married. You can see at least one of the kids in the b+w photo, to the left of the bride. Compared to what I observed when I lived in the US, here children are taken everywhere and generally seem used to being in restaurants and "grown-up" settings.
Claude: exactly! That's why the scene appealed to me, it seemed very down-to-earth and the bride seemed like a laid back person who wasn't so wound up by the whole wedding thing (which seems to happen to many these days) that she couldn't spare some time for a dog who wanted a little attention. I thought it was very sweet, very human.
Aigars: welcome to Villigen and thank you for writing in!
Kris: glad we agree.
Chuckeroon: see answer to Claude above. About the lady on the right, I tried to make her less prominent, but couldn't do it very well.
Your "rather not say" says more than nothing at all, so in fact, you have said something. So there!
Nice moment...a wonderfully captured & composed shot!
nice photo... one unguarded moment for the bride... i guess you should give her a copy to remember :)
I like both--can't decide which one I like best. I think what is most important is that you were able to capture the moment and the feeling--a nice contrast of the formal wedding and the laid back, casual moment when the bride greets the dog...
I'm sure this special greeting did not last long, so you must have been poised and ready, and already taking photos!
Great job, and I prefer the modified photo because there's.....less um, distraction.
Kalyan and Pusa: thank you. There was actually a photographer in their group who would have been shooting while the dog interaction was happening. Or maybe he didn't?
AinZ and C+D: we were sitting in this cafe where there was a lot of "street activity" so I had my camera running. The dog spent a couple of minutes with them. I have photos of the groom petting him as well. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the quality of the photos was decent -- I was zoomed in quite a bit and didn't really know what I was getting.
Oh, what a moment to catch!!
Haha - I've just been through all this. We could've done with a dog or two
I like the one in B&W better... :)
