A place for the bees

Shot just before it pulled into the Villigen Post bus stop to let me on.

A local business. Two recent posts featuring it:

20 October 2007 - Ready for planting

I've noted a handful of these types of vehicles on the roads around Villigen. The sign on the back indicates that the top speed is 30 km per hour (under 19 mph). I took this photo while on the Aarebrücke at Stilli that I've featured before.
The Classic electric scooter is made by a company called Kyburz AG in Canton Zürich. This vehicle has a range upto 65 km (40 miles) on one charge, and can negotiate a maximum grade of 30%. I was tickled to read in the extras that one can also get, as they put it, a fixation for the dog (Hundehalterung in German).

Continuing from yesterday's post. The Axporama sits next to the Schloss Böttstein (Böttstein castle), and there's a chapel located there as well. The initial construction was completed between 1615 and 1617 (early Baroque -- the builder is thought to have come from northern Italy) and the last major rebuilding was undertaken in 1840.

Just a few kilometers up the road from Villigen lies Böttstein (an old post here). There's a powerplant owned by a company called Axpo across the river from Böttstein, and they have a small public information center next to the Böttstein 'castle.' The Axporama has a few interesting items such as this interactive scupture which demonstrates the relationship between potential energy and kinetic energy.

Haven't actually seen so much sun in the past couple of days and the forecast is not so encouraging. Looks like I've done nothing but gripe about the weather all week, when there's really much I'm thankful for.

The roses across the way put up a good fight, though the freezing weather set them back a little.

I haven't been able to find much inspiration outside today and I trust you'll indulge me in another photo from the Zürich Zoo's rainforest exhibit.

The outside temperature barely exceeded 0° C today, but inside the Masoala Rainforest exhibit at the Zürich Zoo it was a balmy 25° C with 80% humidity.

I've noticed that 'lost' items are often picked up off the street or sidewalk and placed in a more prominent place, such as on top of a fence. I've personally had a sweater that I apparently dropped somewhere kindly picked up and placed on a post. Wallace here has been on the produce stand for a couple of days now, but no one has come to retrieve him.

Alternate title: Snowy meadow
I'm a flatlander (I mean it without the negative connotation that some usage seems to have) and since moving to Switzerland, I've had to learn to think in three dimensions when considering maps and roads and such. Anyway, we didn't get any snow, only rain, on Haupstrasse where we live (as far as I know), but the meadows just a little higher up were nicely sugared this morning. It stayed that way into the evening. To see this view with a part of the village visible, please see my overflow site:

Free range chickens? There's even one hen visible near the bottom of the photo. If you had noticed chicken wire in the three white horses photo, this poultry collection is the reason for it.

This was taken yesterday. Today we had snow -- no accumulation in these parts, but snow nonetheless.

Near the entrance to Villigen is a Citroën dealership. There's also a Mazda dealership in the village.

There's no getting around the fact that the weather is on the miserable side right now. On a pretty summer day, the scene might have looked something like this.

Several weeks ago I posted a photo showing part of this scene and I asked if anyone knew what the urn was intended for. Richard in Zürich asked for more context so here it is. Notice the sad, empty planters -- this side of the street is mostly in shadow during this time of year.

Another area that I photograph often. I think this is an apple tree. Behind the tree is the parking area for some of the nice old cars I've written about over the course of this blog.

Last summer, after a few days of heavy rain, the scene looked like this.
